NiceHash, a cloud mining pool, faced a security breach. The organization doesn’t disclose how much was stolen, but the rumour has it that hackers got their hands on 4,449 BTC (or over $68M at current rate).
Are NiceHash doing something about it?
NiceHash team officially confirmed the incident, apologized to users that payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen, and stopped all operations yesterday for at least 24 hours.
I have a NiceHash wallet. What do I do?
Change your password, at least. And check out the updates on social media – NiceHash website is not working.
What can we learn from it
- The rate of Bitcoin skyrocketed to over $15K making the cryptocurrency more tempting than ever. Hackers surely won’t rest, so take all the precautions you can from your side if you own any BTC.
- Choose the wallet wisely. Explore all the reviews and consider a hardware wallet for the larger sums. But still remember than none of the crypto wallets are 100% hacker-proof.
